Do you know the Annual Open Enrollment Period for 2024 Plans is October 15 – December 7, 2023? During this time, you may be able to join Medicare, and you can change your Medicare Drug plan or your Medicare Advantage Plan. This is especially important if your current Medicare plan will stop covering one or more of your prescriptions or will increase your out-of-pocket cost for drug(s) or the premium.

Joan Adler of PA MEDI (formerly APPRISE) can help.  PA MEDI is a free Medicare counseling service funded through the State of PA and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.  There is no cost for services.

Joan will explain the different parts of Medicare and how to choose the way you get your Medicare.  She will explain the difference between “Original Medicare” and Medicare Advantage plans and what options may work best for you. Some people are confused about the difference between Medicare and Medicaid; she will explain that – and how they interact.

She will show how to use the Medicare Plan Finder to compare the various plans in Philadelphia, and can help you if you are not comfortable using the computer.

Other topics will include:  Enrollment Periods; Penalties; how to get a Medigap Supplement; Low Income Programs; the Donut Hole; IRMAA (Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount), which applies to people with higher incomes who have to pay more for Parts B and D.

This program will be useful to anyone who will be going on Medicare in the next year and anyone who is currently on Medicare.   If you are turning 65 or getting ready to retire, this presentation will be very helpful. Family members will also find it useful if they are helping parents or other relatives navigate Medicare.

The talk will leave time for questions.  Joan will explain how to get personalized counseling.
