Join us as we visit the Athenaeum for a tour of its National Landmark, 1845 Italianate Revival building and gallery exhibition.
The Athenaeum is an independent, special-collections library and museum housed in an exquisite Italianate Revival brownstone, the first of its kind in the city. The featured exhibition (November 7, 2022 - January 23, 2023) will be
Rhythm and Meaning: Henri Matisse's
Jazz.
All 20 plates of
Jazz,
the most well-known of Matisse’s illustrated books, will be on display in full, the first time in Philadelphia since the mid-20th century. The exhibition explores
Jazz
as an intermingling of the written word, bound volume, and work of art. This edition is from the collection of Athenaeum members Frances and Michael Baylson.
