Health & Fall Risk Screenings

Thursday, May 19 – 12:30 – 2:30 pm

Falls Library, 3501 Midvale Avenue

Drop -in for this FREE screening by Occupational Therapy students from Thomas Jefferson University to find out your risk of falling – and ways to present falls. No registration needed!

Health statistics demonstrate that falls can be extremely dangerous for older adults. One in every five falls by seniors results in an injury. Three million older adults are treated in ERs for a fall-related injury each year, and more than 32,000 fall-related deaths occur each year.

Teams of students will administer several tests and then provide individualized health education tips – all in about 20 minutes!

The Health Screenings will include Blood Pressure Check, Balance, Fall Risk Assessment, and Hand Strength Testing. Research has indicated that hand strength might be a better indicator of overall health than blood pressure.
