Join us as Caitlin McKenney, an assistive technology specialist at TechOWL, takes us on a journey through technologies to support our independence, make life easier, ensure our safety, encourage communications and provide entertainment.

October 6, 2021 – Making your Phone Work for You

If you have an android phone, iPhone, flip phone, or something else, learn how to make your mobile phone work for you. We will talk about the displays and accessibility settings on the different types of phones and learn how to use “apps” for memory and organization, social connections, wellness and more.

October 13, 2021 – Home Safety & Technology

A world of technology is available to help ensure your safety and maximize your independence. Join us as we explore virtual assistants like Alexa, medication management tools, falls prevention, smart home technology and other monitoring systems for your security and convenience. Learn where to find support and how to decide what features/systems will work for you.

October 20, 2021 - Exploring Tablets

What is the difference between an iPad, notebook, GrandPad, and a Kindle? Compare the features of different tablet products, from the multipurpose designs to the specialized, and their lower-cost alternatives. Learn what each can do and how to decide which one is best for you.

Caitlin McKenney is an assistive technology specialist at TechOWL (https://techowlpa.org), Pennsylvania's Assistive Technology Act Program. She leads the statewide reused equipment project, oversees emergency preparedness activities, and provides technical assistance to seniors and residents with disabilities.
