Japan Less Traveled Presented by Roger Marsh Wednesday, February 10, 2 PM Via Zoom No time to register? Click here at 2 PM on Wednesday to join! In past decades, Japan received few foreign visitors because of language barriers, the perceived expense, and more. That has changed (or had before Covid), with millions of overseas visitors every year. But most go to the main destinations of Kyoto and Tokyo, and perhaps the shrines a Nikko or old town of Takayama; other parts of the country have much to offer, but few foreign tours. Roger will lead us north of Tokyo to areas that feel much like the Japan of past decades, with few foreign tourists. Once remote, these destinations are within easy reach of the Shinkansen (bullet trains). The internet makes planning easy (or at least easier) and tourist sites welcome visitors with mulilingual information. We'll see shrines at dawn, temples that climb a thousand steps up a mountain, old houses, and more.
