End-of-Life and Other Issues Facing Older Adults
With State Rep. Tarik Khan, PhD, CRNP
Tuesday, December 10 at 7 pm on Zoom
Rep. Tarik Khan has a unique perspective on issues facing older adults. He is a Certified Nurse Practitioner (still working one day a week) and a State Representative.
In a column for East Falls NOW, he says that his clinical work greatly informs his legislative strategy, including the right for patients to be the primary decision-makers in their care, especially at the end of their life.
He has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation dealing with support for families living with Alzheimer’s, the costs of pharmacy benefit managers, compassionate aid in dying, surprise medical bills, and nursing home accountability.
That monthly column for East Falls included the POLST (Pennsylvania Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment Form). A POLST is different from an advance directive or a living will. It requires the doctor and patient to have a thoughtful conversation, and for the doctor to sign a special hot pink form and wallet card. Click here to read this column.
