East Falls Village presents A Special Matinee of
Ladysitting -a play based on Lorene Cary’s book
Thursday, February 8 at 2:00 pm
Arden Theatre, 40 N. 2nd St.
$26 per ticket
Lorene Cary and her husband, the Rev. Robert Smith, lived in East Falls from 2005 to 2012 when he was the rector of the Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd.
Ladysitting: My Year with Nana at the End of Her Century is Cary’s account of how the family took her 100-year-old Nana “into the rectory” in the spring of 2007. Everything changed for them after she moved in: day-to-day life, family relationships – and even the Nana they knew. Much of their experiences will be familiar to families who have suddenly been thrust into caregiving. She writes about the problem of finding the right caregivers, about a long and frustrating struggle with Medicare, and about the blessings of hospice. Nana died in the winter of 2008.
Cary has adapted her book as a play, now having its world premiere at the Arden Theatre Co.
