About this event
A special Thursday Walk, to another of the many gardens in the Philadelphia area!
The Barnes Arboretum at Saint Joseph’s University, a 12-acre arboretum astonishingly diverse for its size, is home to more than 2,500 varieties of woody and herbaceous plants, many rare. Many specimen trees had been planted by the previous owner when Dr. and Mrs. Barnes bought the property a hundred years ago. While Dr. Barnes built the art collection, Laura Barnes devoted herself to the arboretum. Her legacy lives on in the beauty of the landscape and in the horticulture school that she founded in 1940.
In a partnership, The Barnes Foundation retains oversight of the arboretum and the historic buildings, while the operations and grounds are now managed by Saint Joseph’s University.
Meet us at the Falls Library at 10 AM to carpool, or join us at the arboretum at about 10:20.
Please register online or at 267-444-4507 (M-F, 9-6; members may text) so we can let you know if plans change.
