About this event
The American Philosophical Society's exhibition "Mapping a Nation: Shaping the Early American Republic", traces the creation and use of maps from the mid-18th century through 1816, and investigates the way maps had political and social meaning.
The exhibition emphasizes the processes that produced maps (surveying, drawing, engraving and printing) in addition to the ideas and information contained in the maps. It also sheds light on the ways people used maps as political and ideological tools.
Included are manuscript maps from the American Revolution, surveying instruments, maps from the Lewis and Clark expedition, and 1757 map of the British Empire in North America.
There will be a $5 admission fee.
Please register either here on line or at 265-444-4507 (M-F, 9-6).
Meet at the EF SEPTA station for the 10:23 train.
