About this event

The Johnstown Flood

Wednesday, July 31, 6:30 pm

Falls Library

This Award-winning short documentary chronicles one of the most devastating disasters in American history – the flood of May 31, 1889 that killed 2,200 people. The film is also a story of nineteenth-century America and how some of the most famous industrialists of the era – Henry Clay Frick, Andrew Carnegie, and other members of the exclusive South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club – were involved.

Fred Vincent, whose family lived in Johnstown (after the flood!), will introduce the film and will lead a discussion afterwards. All are welcome.

After the film showing, check out one of the books about the Johnstown Flood by David McCullough and Al Roker.
