Today's special destination is The Woodlands, located on the Schuylkill close to the University of Pennsylvania (4000 Woodland Avenue).  The Woodlands is the former country home of William Hamilton, and is one of the nation's most sophisticated neoclassical houses from the years following the Revolution.  The property was reshaped in 1786 to reflect contemporary English picturesque landscape and horticultural ideals.

In 1840 the estate was transformed into a rural cemetery, still active today.  Thomas Eakins and Rembrandt Peale are two of them many notable people buried here.  The site includes two 18th century buildings, elaborate Victorian funerary monuments, curving green spaces and majestic trees.

We will meet at the library at 9:30 to carpool or at The Woodlands at about 10 if you prefer.

Parking is available, also maps and guides to the cemetery.

Please register here on line of at 267-444-4507 (M-F, 9-6) so we know to look for you.
