Join us for a private tour of the Anthony J Drexel Picture Gallery, 3141 Chestnut Street, Main Building, 3rd floor, at 11:15.
The gallery maintains the original state in which it was built in 1902. It houses many 19th century European paintings and sculptures, including paintings by Corot, the Barbizon School, the Dusseldorf Academy and a large collection of paintings by Anthony Drexel's father, artist turned banker Francis Martin Drexel.
One of the most significant pieces on display is the 239-year-old David Rittenhouse Astronomical Music Clock, long been considered the most important clock in the United States.
After seeing this gallery, we can have an optional lunch, and/or look at the other two galleries on the Drexel campus: the Rincliffe Gallery, currently displaying 3,000 years of drinking vessels, from 12th century China to 20th century Europe; and the Paul Peck Alumni Center Gallery, designed by Frank Furness as the Centennial Bank in 1876, now restored to its original state, and displaying art from Asia.
The Paul Peck Gallery is at 3141 Chestnut Street, 3rd floor, and the Rincliffe Gallery is at 31st and Market Streets.
All the Drexel galleries are free.
We will take the 10:23 train from East Falls station to 30th Street Station and then walk the few blocks to Drexel for the 11:15 tour. Or if you prefer, meet us at the gallery at 11:15.
Please register here on line or at 267-444-4507, so we know to look for you.
