Join us for two interesting tours, both with connections to Violet Oakley.

We will begin at the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, 35 W Chelten Avenue, where Village member Joe Leube will show us around.  This historic church contains the largest church organ in the city, which Joe has arranged for us to hear.  We will also see Violet Oakley's murals of women in the Bible.

From there we will drive up to Chestnut Hill to Woodmere Art Museum to tour the most ambitious exhibition of Violet Oakley to date, "A Grand Vision".  The show highlights Oakley's spirit of civic humanism and her accomplishments as a muralist, portraitist, stained glass designer and illustrator.  She contributed extensively to Philadelphia institutions and to the American Renaissance revival.

After we see the exhibition a local lunch is optional.

Please register here on line or at 267-444-4507 (M-F, 9-6) so we know to look for you, either at the library at 9:30 for carpooling or at the Presbyterian Church at about 9:45-50.
