A PRESERVATION PRIMER FOR FALLSERS
Monday, MAY 7, 2018, 6:00 -7:30 pm
At the Falls of Schuylkill Library, Midvale Avenue and Conrad Street
Development, while welcome in many ways, in recent years has become an active threat to Philadelphia’s historic and architectural legacy – both in Center City, and increasingly in the neighborhoods. This program will help you understand:
---The differences between the various historic registries and markers
---What structures in East Falls are already on one or more registries?
---How does a property come onto the Philadelphia Registry, and what are the implications?
---What are some of the architectural styles found among East Falls houses, and how do these styles help date a house?
--What are some on-line resources for learning about the history of Philadelphia’s built environment?
Speakers will include: Caroline Slama (The Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia); Stephen Fillmore (East Falls Forward); Ken Hinde (Philadelphia Water Department, Architecture lecturer and tour guide): Steven Peitzman (Drexel University)
