Join us for a special Saturday lunch in in “the most authentic Italian café in America” to discover the food, wine, and culture of Bologna . A speaker from the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia, will show slides of Bologna while talking about the city’s history, culture, culinary tradition, and wines.
Then we’ll enjoy 3 half portions of typical dishes from Bologna, paired with half glasses of special wines.
Accessibility Note: The luncheon will be held upstairs at Gran Caffe L’Aquila (no elevator access).
The cost is $45 per person. Please pay online with a credit card or by check (payable to EFCC/EFV) to EFCC, PO Box 12672, Philadelphia, PA 19129. (If paying by check, call 267-444-4507 with the names of those attending.) Space is limited and registration is required.
The Caffe is very accommodating for people who are vegetarian or gluten-intolerant, but please tell the village when you register.
About Gran Caffe L’Aquila
The original Gran Caffe L’Aquila, a landmark in the capital city of Abruzzo, won the “Café of the Year” award for all of Italy. In 2009, it was devastated in an earthquake. The owner Stafano Biasini, decided to move Gran Caffe L’Aquila to Philadelphia. The entire restaurant was designed and built in Italy and shipped over for installation. After three years of planning, this “rebirth of one of Italy’s most beloved cafes” opened on Christmas Eve, 2014.
In addition to featuring the foods of many parts of Italy in special lunches and dinner, Gran Caffe L’Aquila is known for its gelati and coffee. Owner Stefano Biasini won the World Cup of Gelato for his native Italy and is now competing on the U.S. team. In addition to a gelati lab, the cafe has its own coffee roaster.
Gran Caffe L’Aquila has been called “the next best thing to hopping on a flight from PHL to Rome” – or in our case Bologna.
